The dream. A unique sports car with stunning, elegant good looks, yet safe and economical.
The result was the DeLorean DMC-12. Without a doubt, its distinctive look (particularly its gleaming stainless steel exterior and bold, futuristic gull-wing doors) will forever set the DeLorean apart from all other automobiles. Making its US debut in 1981, the DMC-12 featured a rear-mounted engine, 304 grade stainless stee body panels (which will never rust, chip or fade), and a PRV-6 engine and transmission made by Renault in France. The interior was available in either Black or Gray, with leather seats, power windows and mirrors, air conditioning and adjustable steering wheel.
Thanks to Hollywood, this car will forever be associated with the Back to the Future series of movies. Despite the fact that the DMC-12 accelerates from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than eight seconds (and handles like a smooth dream), the only time travel you'll do will be in your imagination. Roads? Yes, you'll still be needing roads. |
